Number of Ukrainian households found to be owed statutory homelessness duty in England increased by more than 1,000 between March and June 2023

More than 6,000 households now owed a duty, two thirds of which include dependent children

The number of Ukrainian households found to be owed a statutory homelessness duty in England increased by more than 1,000 between March and June 2023, according to new figures from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

In Ukraine homelessness management information: 24 February 2022 to 16 June 2023, the DLUHC sets out information on homelessness duties accepted by local authorities in England in respect of Ukrainian households, including that –

  • 6,285 households were found to be owed a prevention or relief duty – an increase of more than 1,000 compared to the 5,105 households found to be owed a duty up to 24 march 2023;
  • 67 per cent of those households (4,200) had dependent children; and
  • 3,650 households were owed a duty because accommodation or other arrangements had broken down, compared to 2,750 in the period up to 24 March 2023.

In relation to outcomes for households found to be owed a duty, the figures include an updated snapshot count showing that 550 households were in temporary accommodation (compared to 655 in March 2023) and 2,825 had been offered settled accommodation (compared to 1,920 in March 2023).
