DLUHC confirms allocation of £150 million to support those on the Homes for Ukraine scheme and others to move into sustainable accommodation and prevent risk of homelessness

Previously announced UK-wide funding tops up existing Homelessness Prevention Grant for 2023/2024

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has confirmed allocations of the £150 million it is providing in 2023/2024 to support those on the Homes for Ukraine scheme and others to move into their own homes and to prevent risks of homelessness.

Further to plans outlined in December 2022 in its Homelessness Prevention Grant 2023 to 2025 – that include funding this year to help local authorities and the devolved administrations support people who have fled Ukraine and others at risk of homelessness – the DLUHC confirmed today that –

‘The funding has been allocated across the UK in relation to the proportion of Homes for Ukraine arrivals in each part of the UK, with England receiving about £109 million.

Funding will be allocated to all local authorities in England reflecting both Homes for Ukraine arrival numbers reported for each local authority and wider homelessness pressures. As a top-up to the existing Homelessness Prevention Grant, this grant is ringfenced to ensure local authorities are resourced to prevent homelessness.'

NB – the DLUHC has also confirmed the amount allocated to each local authority in England.

In addition, while the DLUHC says that it generally expects spending to be prioritised for supporting Ukrainians into sustainable accommodation –

'Local authorities are best placed to understand the support needed for local communities and, within England, this funding may also be used to support other people at risk of homelessness in line with local pressures.'
